With the Audi Q3, there’s just one engine: the 2.0L TFSI® 4-cylinder engine that creates 184 horsepower and 221 lb-ft of torque. Along with producing all that power, this engine also uses gas at a decently efficient rate. In the Q3, you’ll get up to 22 city/30 highway MPG.

With the Mazda CX-5, you’ll have a couple options when it comes to the power of its performance. Its standard Skyactiv®-G 2.5L 4-cylinder engine provides an extremely efficient performance and can reach up to an EPA-estimated 25 city/31 highway MPG.*

Want to enjoy fast acceleration and a thrilling ride in your new crossover? More athleticism is packed inside the available Skyactiv®-G 2.5L Dynamic Pressure Turbo engine that provides the 2021 Mazda CX-5 with up to 227 horsepower and 310 lb-ft of torque. With this kind of power, the Mazda CX-5 will leave other crossovers, like the Q3, behind in its tracks.

Both SUVs have standard and available systems that will give you great control in all road conditions. So, if it snows or rains, you’ll continue to have the traction needed to steadily travel to your destination.

Additionally, the 2021 Mazda CX-5 also offers an available windshield wiper de-icer to help keep your visibility clear during inclement weather. Inside, you can stay warm while driving thanks to heated front seats standard in the Mazda CX-5 and available in the Audi Q3.

The Mazda CX-5 also offers an available heated steering wheel and heated rear seats for extra warmth for both you and your passengers during those cold winter commutes. Even during the summer, the 2021 Mazda CX-5 is set to make your ride extremely comfortable thanks to the available ventilated front seats.

Both these SUVs are equipped with cutting-edge technology features. It all starts with their standard infotainment systems that let you seamlessly integrate your smartphone to the center display for personalized connectivity during your drive with the Apple CarPlay and Android Autofeatures.

Watch your apps come to life on the 8.8-inch display in the 2021 Q3 or the standard 10.25-inch center display found in the Mazda CX-5. The Mazda infotainment system even comes with standard infotainment system voice command and HD Radio.

Safety and Driver-Assist Features

The Mazda CX-5 and the Audi Q3 also come with driver-assistive systems that can detect any vehicles or pedestrians in your path ahead and alert you before a collision happens. In the Mazda CX-5, this feature is called Advanced Smart City Brake Support with Pedestrian Detection.

However, only the 2021 Mazda CX-5 comes standard with:

  • Lane Departure Warning System with Lane-keep Assist – While you’re on the highway, this system detects if you’re unintentionally drifting out of your lane. If you are, the system will alert you and can even apply corrective steering if needed.
  • Blind Spot Monitoring with Rear Cross Traffic Alert – This feature helps detect objects in your blind spot and warns you. You can also use this when backing up to detect vehicles approaching from the side.

These systems will help keep you safely centered on the road and let you know when it’s clear to change lanes or back out of a parking spot or driveway.

Mazda vs Audi Dependability

Every year, the J.D. Power group puts out the J.D. Power U.S. Dependability StudySM that looks at vehicles' dependability across brands. The 2021 dependability study included Mazda and Audi. In the J.D. Power 2021 U.S. Dependability StudySM, the average problems per brand sits at 121 pp.

When looking at Audi, the brand as a whole ranks below the industry standard with 127 pp. Audi does better than many other industry favorites, like Infiniti and Volvo. However, it does not rise above Mazda when it comes to dependability. Mazda scores right at the industry average with only 121 pp, which is above Audi. That means, Mazda is, overall, a more dependable brand.

National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) Crash Tests

To help drivers pick the safest vehicle they can, the NHTSA runs crash tests on many new vehicles and gives them a score of one to five stars, with five stars being the best. The NHTSA runs three different tests: frontal crash tests, side crash tests, and rollover tests. Those individual tests also  get a score from one to five stars. So, how did the Audi Q3 and the Mazda CX-5 match up?

Both the Mazda CX-5 and the Audi Q3 scored a 5-Star Overall Safety Rating. However, when you dig into the various crash tests, you can see where these vehicles differ.

In the rollover test, the Mazda CX-5 and the Audi Q3 both scored four out of five stars.

The Mazda CX-5 earned a perfect 5-Star Safety Rating in the overall side crash test. In all three side crash tests, the Mazda CX-5 also scored a perfect 5-Star Safety Rating. The Audi Q3 also earned a 5-Star Safety Rating in all three side crash tests and the overall side crash rating.

The frontal crash tests are composed of two different tests. The Mazda CX-5 boasts a perfect score on both tests, giving them a 5-Star Overall Safety Rating in frontal safety. The Audi Q3 ended up with an overall 4-Star Overall Safety Rating in the same tests.

When looking at the 2021 Mazda CX-5 vs. Audi Q3, it’s clear to see what makes these models two of the more premium crossover SUVs out on the market.

That being said, drivers around Willow Grove, Willow Manor, and Glenside will like the added features and amenities the Mazda CX-5 provides. Along with its various powertrains, you can build your Mazda CX-5 to deliver an extremely efficient or sporty performance.
